Air Conditioning Repairs
Summer is upon us, which means that we’re relying on our air conditioners in order to keep our homes and businesses comfortable. It’s important to stay on top of whether or not your air conditioner needs repairs in order to keep it running efficiently all summer long. It can be difficult to determine whether or not your air conditioner needs repairs, as most people don’t really pay attention to their air conditioners and unless it stops working entirely, it’s easy to forget about them.
However, the last thing you want is for your air conditioner to break down, especially as temperatures climb to the triple-digits. The sooner you take care of any necessary repairs, the better. Here are some of the tell-tale signs you can watch out for that indicate your air conditioner needs repairs.
#1. There Isn’t Much Airflow
You should be able to rely on your air conditioner to consistently blow out cool air as needed. If it isn’t, this is a surefire sign that your air conditioner needs repairs. Little airflow or none at all can be indicators of all sorts of different issues, such as a blockage somewhere in your airducts or system or a stuck or broken blower. These aren’t issues that you can take care of yourself, so if your air conditioner isn’t blowing out any air or is only blowing out a little, you’ll want to ensure that you contact an HVAC professional in order to come out and get that fixed for you.
#2. It’s Blowing Warm Air
What a nightmare this is – the hottest months of the year, and your air conditioner is making them even more unbearable by blowing hot air throughout your home rather than cool air? If your home is getting hotter when you turn your air conditioner on as opposed to cooler, your air conditioner needs repairs beyond a shadow of a doubt. This problem can occur as a result of a frozen air conditioner, which is when ice blocks the cooling process by forming on your air conditioner’s coils, resulting in warm air being blown throughout your home.
Frozen ACs aren’t the only culprits for this issue. If you’ve checked the coils of your air conditioner and they appear to be fine, you want to contact an HVAC professional to come out and take a look, so that they can diagnose the problem and fix it.
#3. There Are Unusual Sounds
It’s normal for air conditioners to make some noise when they’re running, the same as for any other type of machinery. However, if you notice any unusual noises, this can indicate that your air conditioner needs repairs.
Some of the possible sounds to listen out for that can indicate problems with your air conditioner include:
- Clicking either as your AC runs or when it won’t turn on
- Bubbling and gurgling noises
- Screeching metal
All of these sounds are indicative of various problems with your system, from a buildup within your system to electrical problems and more. If you notice any strange noises either as your air conditioner is running or as it tries to run, but won’t, you should contact your HVAC professional.
#4. The Thermostat Isn’t Working
Your thermostat is what helps your air conditioning system run and determines how long it should run for. Another sign your air conditioner needs repairs is if your air conditioner isn’t turning on or is only running for short periods of time, your thermostat could be to blame. Your thermostat needs to be running properly in order for your air conditioner to work as it should. If you suspect you’re having problems with your thermostat, your HVAC technician can determine what the problem is and how to proceed, be it repairing the thermostat or replacing it.
#5. Your Energy Bills Are Spiking
It’s normal for there to be some variance in your energy bills, however, if your energy bills are spiking, this could be a sign that your air conditioner needs repairs. Your AC consumes a lot of energy even when it’s running properly. If it’s having issues such as short-cycling, leaks in the system, a broken thermostat, or even just age, you will need to have your air conditioner repaired in order to bring your energy bills back down to normal.
